15 September: Since launching Say Pants to the Tax last month, Marks & Spencer and WUKA’s campaign to level the playing field on period products by making period pants free from VAT continues to gather the support of retailers, businesses, politicians, and charities.
Say Pants to the Tax is now backed by the UK’s top 5 knicker retailers – who together represent nearly two thirds of all knicker sales in the UK, as well as 4 bespoke period pant brands. The government petition has continued to gather momentum; new signatories this week include Morrisons, Here We Flo, The Nappy Gurus and Lindex.
Last month M&S also pledged to pass the entirety of the cost saving onto customers which means a three pack of period knickers that currently retail at £20 has a lower price of £16, until the government commits to Say Pants to the Tax.
Victoria McKenzie-Gould, Corporate Affairs Director at M&S, said: “Today marks a huge milestone in our campaign to level the playing field on period products. The UK’s top five knicker retailers have pledged their support to Say Pants to the Tax so that whatever period product someone chooses to use, bought from any retailer or business, it is VAT free. Launched just last month, it’s incredible to see the retail industry coming together – with Morrisons joining as the latest signatory. At M&S we’ve pledged to pass the entirety of cost saving onto customers, now we’re encouraging the government to do the right thing and make this official legislation across the board.”
