This year marks a remarkable milestone for Paisley local, Kirsty Atherton, as she celebrates 40 years of service with Marks and Spencer - a journey that has taken her from her first shift as a teenager to her current role as Team Manager at M&S Paisley.

Kirsty joined Marks and Spencer in 1985 at the Sauchiehall Street store in Glasgow. As a teenager, she was encouraged to take the role by her gran who also enjoyed a long career with M&S. What began as a part-time job soon developed into a lifelong career. Over the years, Kirsty has progressed from Customer Assistant to Supervisor and finally into management. In 2002 she transferred to the Paisley store, where she’s been a familiar and friendly face ever since.

Looking back on her four decades, Kirsty said: “Reaching 40 years feels like such a personal achievement. I’ve seen the business evolve constantly, but the values that matter - brilliant colleagues, customer service and quality products – have always been at the core. M&S has supported me in developing my career while also giving me balance. The team are what really motivates me and I feel so grateful to work with such brilliant colleagues.”

Kirsty has witnessed significant changes over the years and says she feels proud to see M&S continue to thrive as a trusted name in the town.

Reflecting on her role, her favourite parts of her job are connecting with customers from all backgrounds and supporting community initiatives such as The STAR Project, Women’s Aid and local hospices. She’s also a firm fan of M&S favourites, counting the Best Ever Lasagne and Mac & Cheese among her personal top picks.

Andy Mason, Store Manager at M&S Paisley, added: “Kirsty’s contribution to the store has been outstanding. Her energy, experience and positive outlook lift the whole team, and she’s a huge part of what makes our Paisley store special. Celebrating 40 years with her is a real highlight for us all – congratulations Kirsty!.”
