- Actress Anna Friel to voice new series of TV ads –
In the coming week, Marks & Spencer (M&S) will unveil a brand new food marketing campaign, designed to put M&S food at the heart of everyday occasions.
Built around the strapline – Make Today Delicious – the campaign builds on the retailer’s reputation as a destination for special events to show how M&S food can make more everyday food moments extra special.
Steve Sharp, Executive Director of Marketing at M&S, said: “Spending time with friends and family is a priority for our customers, but with no major national celebrations this year they’re placing even greater emphasis on personal, more everyday events. Food is being used as a way to bring people together and make those moments more memorable – be it a BBQ, a picnic or a Sunday roast. This campaign taps into this trend – showing exactly how great food can transform the mundane into something special.“
Make Today Delicious will act as an umbrella campaign for all M&S Food marketing, covering online, print and TV. It will be applied across the entire M&S Food offer –covering areas from health to scratch cooking – as well as M&S’s popular promotional formats such as its Dine In for £10 deal.
Actress Anna Friel will provide the voice for a series of TV adverts focused on different food occasions – from a seaside picnic to a lunch on the go. The first ad, which airs on Monday 13th May, focuses on a summer BBQ. Set to the Crystal Fighters track, Plage, the ad is shot in a filmic style and opens on a balmy summer evening sky, moving quickly to a woman who appears to get ready for an evening out. However, rather than hitting the town, the woman steps outside to enjoy a BBQ.
The food quickly takes centre stage; retaining the close up, mouth watering shots that M&S advertising is famous for. Featuring dishes such as the Ultimate Steak Burger and Pork Belly in Hoisin glaze - the scene really showcases the succulence and quality of the ingredients.
The twist comes as the camera pans out to reveal the couple are in fact enjoying their BBQ on a tiny city roof terrace. Anna’s voiceover reminds us that with fantastic food available “any day is a great day for a BBQ “- encouraging customers to “make the most of their great outdoors”– with 3 for £10 across the M&S grill range.’
The ad will air during the Coronation Street ad break on Monday 13th on ITV. However, M&S fans can receive a sneak preview by visiting the retailer’s Facebookpage this Sunday evening (12th May).
The 40” ad was shot by London-based agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and was directed by Helen Downing.
