The M&S Sidcup team is celebrating the store’s one-year anniversary today, having opened on this day (19th June) last year.
M&S unveiled its brand new 7,200 sq ft fresh market-style foodhall last June with an official ribbon cutting and live music from a DJ.
The store team is celebrating today with recognition awards, a spread of M&S treats backstage and a homemade Percy Pig themed cake to mark the occasion. That’s not all, with a team sports day planned for this weekend.
This summer also marks 25 years at M&S for Store Manager Karen Black, who started her career as a Clothing Christmas temp in Bexleyheath before progressing to a Team Manager and a Store Manager today.

Karen said of both milestones: “It’s incredible how quickly a year has flown by since we first welcomed customers through the doors and since I first joined M&S!! To open a new store where I was born has honestly been fantastic – it is not an exaggeration to say it been one of the best years of my life and a real career highlight.
I’m so proud that We have created a real M&S family feel as a store team, where everyone can be themselves. It’s been a brilliant year and customers have been absolutely loving our in-store bakery and coffee counter, perfect for picking something up for the school run or the train.
We’re also so lucky to have some local influencers in Sidcup, who are always popping in to try new products, our viral cookie cups were a must- have last month and now it is all the new picky bits we’ve just launched. My fave is the Fully Loaded Chicken Shawarma Dip!”
