This Mother’s Day, Marks & Spencer is celebrating the special bond between mothers and daughters with the heartwarming story of Dorothy Taylor and Lindsey Malone – a mother-daughter duo whose shared passion for M&S has shaped their careers and strengthened their connection over the years.

For Dorothy, M&S has been more than just a workplace – it’s been a second home for 27 years. She first joined the team in January 1998 and played a key role in opening the original M&S store in Buttercrane Shopping Centre store before transitioning to The Quays Newry. Over the years, she’s become a pillar of the Clothing & Home department, while also taking on the crucial role of Safety Officer for the past 25 years. Her influence extends far beyond her store, as she helped shape M&S in Northern Ireland, supporting renewals and new store openings across the region, including Bangor, Craigavon, Armagh and Aldergrove.

Inspired by her mum’s dedication, Lindsey followed in Dorothy’s footsteps, starting her own M&S journey in 2005 at the Malone store on Lisburn Road. She later transferred to M&S Newry, where she had the unique opportunity to work alongside her mother – an experience that deepened their bond and cemented their joint love of the retailer. Lindsey’s career quickly flourished, progressing from Section Manager to Store Manager roles in Lisburn, Upper Newtownards Road and Armagh, before making the move  to Manchester, where she led teams as a Store Manager and Deputy Store Manager.

One of their most cherished memories was when Dorothy flew to Manchester to help Lindsey set up the relocated M&S Macclesfield store – a moment that perfectly captured the love and support between them, both as colleagues and as mother and daughter.

Now back in Northern Ireland, Lindsey is at the helm of M&S Omagh team as Store Manager, while Dorothy continues to be a source of inspiration at M&S Newry. Though they may work in different locations, their shared love for M&S keeps them connected – whether it’s catching up when Lindsey covers shifts in Newry, or swapping their latest M&S must-haves over a cup of tea (always accompanied by biscuits from the M&S Foodhall!).

Reflecting on their journey, Dorothy shared: "Working at M&S has been a joy and having Lindsey follow in my footsteps makes it even more special. No matter where we are, M&S is always part of our family – in our careers, in our homes, and on our dinner table! I feel so lucky to share this journey with my daughter, especially on Mother’s Day!”

For Lindsey, M&S has been a constant in her life, shaping her career and strengthening her relationship with her mum. She added: "Growing up, M&S was always part of our lives – from school uniforms to Christmas dinners, and now our careers. I’ve always admired my mum’s dedication and I love that we can share this experience together. Even now,  we’re always sharing recommendations – we’ll send each other links and ask, ‘What do you think of this?’ It’s like having a personal shopper who just happens to be my mum!”

Ryan Lemon, Regional Manager for M&S in Northern Ireland, added: "At M&S, we’re incredibly proud to have colleagues who love what they do and inspire their families to be part of our team. Dorothy and Lindsey’s story is a beautiful example of how M&S careers span generations, and we’re delighted to celebrate them this Mother’s Day."
