bp pulse opens first EV charging hub at M&S store in Cheshunt

M&S Cheshunt is today opening a brand-new bp pulse electric charging hub at its store, offering a convenient one stop shop for electric vehicle shoppers in Cheshunt.

The charging hub brings together 10 individual EV charging bays – four ultra-fast 150kW and six rapid 50kW - allowing visitors to charge while they shop for their M&S favourites. One ultra-fast charging bay is extra-wide to ensure customers who need it have extra room to charge.

The launch is the first of a number of hubs to be rolled out to M&S stores across the UK.  M&S and bp first teamed up in 2005 when the first M&S Food store opened at a bp retail site and bp pulse charging bays are now available at over 150 bp retail sites with an M&S convenience store.

In line with its Plan A commitment, M&S is targeting becoming a net zero business across its value chain and operations by 2040.

Sacha Berendji, Director of Operations at M&S, said: “Investing in our stores to make them bigger, better, brighter destinations for the broadest range of customers, including more family shoppers, is a key part of our strategy to Reshape M&S for Growth. EV charging will become an increasingly important part of the store offer. The new Cheshunt hub includes ultra-fast charge points, making it quick and convenient for customers to charge while they shop. It's also an important part of our Plan A roadmap to Net Zero by 2040."

Irfan Patel, Store Manager at M&S Cheshunt said: “It’s fantastic to be the first M&S store in the UK to open a bp pulse charging hub. We’ve seen that more and more of our customers are driving electric cars and being next to the A10, we see both local customers and those travelling in from the wider area. Now we’ll be able to offer an improved shopping experience by providing a convenient charging spot while they stock up on those all-important M&S essentials! We’re so excited for customers to start using it.”

Akira Kirton, CEO at bp pulse UK, said: “The opening of our EV charging hub at the M&S store in Cheshunt is a huge milestone; the first of a strategic rollout programme. This is a fantastic option for M&S shoppers, enabling them to top up their EV battery while they enjoy shopping in a brilliant retail destination. Convenience is a hugely important part of our aim to develop the UK’s best on-the-go charging network, and this is a compelling example of how we’re offering fast and reliable EV charging where it is convenient for our customers.”

bp pulse plan to roll out a number of EV charging hubs at M&S stores across the UK, including this year at Pudsey, Shoreham, Lisburn, Handforth and Brooklands. Three sites are already operational - Maidstone and Southgate two years ago and Torbay last year. This is the first ‘hub’, a site with at least 6 charging bays.
