Plan A for Another Life is our 2030 approach to a more circular future for fashion. It brings together how we design, make and keep clothes in use for longer through rewear, repair, resale and recycle.
By helping customers wear items for longer, care for the pieces they already love, pass on pre-loved favourites and recycle what can no longer be used, Another Life helps reduce waste, protect resources and support a more resilient circular fashion system. Our ambition is to give 5 million items Another Life by 2030.
Rewear
Rewear is where circularity begins.
We focus on creating great-quality clothing with longevity built in, from pieces that hold their shape and feel-good wash after wash to styles that can be worn season after season. We are also strengthening the materials behind our products: since 2019, 100% of the cotton used in M&S clothing has been sourced through programmes that support better environmental and social practices, and 91% of polyester now comes from recycled sources. This is all part of our commitment that 100% of materials used in our clothing will come from preferred alternatives by 2030.
Repair
We want to make repair simple, accessible and affordable for customers.
In 2024, we launched M&S Fixed by SOJO, supported by our Plan A Accelerator Fund, to help customers repair and refresh the clothes they already love. We have also introduced online how-to repair content on our website to build confidence and make caring for clothes feel more achievable. Our ambition is to normalise repair and double the amount of M&S clothing being repaired by 2030.
We are making it easier for customers to give pre-loved M&S clothing a new home.
Since 2008, more than 36 million items have been donated through our clothing takeback partnership with Oxfam. In 2025, we launched our first dedicated resale channel on eBay with Reskinned and Oxfam, giving customers the option to donate through stores or by free courier service. Resold garments are professionally cleaned, repaired and relisted, helping more great-quality M&S pieces stay in circulation for longer.
When clothing cannot be reworn, repaired or resold, recycling has an important role to play.
Through Another Life, items that cannot be resold are diverted into new uses such as mattress filling or carpet underlay. In 2023, we launched our first Beauty Takeback Scheme with Handle to help customers recycle beauty empties, and since 2007 our closed-loop hanger scheme has prevented more than 1 billion hangers from going to landfill. We are also investing in textile-to-textile innovation and future infrastructure through work with Circulose, UKFT and Circle-8.
