- M&S is investing over £4 million to lower prices on more than 50 Organic products to make them more accessible for customers who want to eat organic food.
- The UK Organic market presents a significant growth opportunity as demand for high-quality, responsibly sourced food grows. According to Worldpanel, the Organic market is growing 4.4% YoY*. M&S is aiming to double its share of the Organic market by making products more affordable and accessible without compromising on quality.
- Today’s investment in value will bring customer favourites including organic carrots, lamb, pasta and potatoes into the M&S Remarksable Value range, which is benchmarked to competitor prices with the key point of difference being M&S’s trusted and market leading quality.
- The move comes as customer insight reveals a growing interest in organic products among UK shoppers: over a third of M&S customers say they buy more organic food than they did five years ago**
- Prices now start from just 70p for M&S Organic Garlic and 90p for Organic Carrots and every product is certified to the Soil Association's highest organic standards
- In larger, newer Foodhalls M&S is rolling out multi temperature zones for Organic food so customers can shop frozen, chilled and store cupboard organic food in one place
M&S is investing over £4m to lower the price of more than 50 products in its Organic range with everyday food items starting from 70p for Organic Garlic and 90p for Organic Carrots. Organic customer favourites will join M&S's popular Remarksable Value range, offering customers benchmarked prices alongside the trusted quality and sourcing standards M&S is known for.
The move comes as M&S reinvests to double the size of its Food business and deliver on its ambition to become a true shopping list retailer, making it easier for customers to get everything on their shopping list when they visit. Research shows that around a third of M&S customers buy Organic products occasionally. By investing in lower prices, M&S aims to attract new customers into the category and help existing shoppers to visit more frequently.
This latest investment forms part of M&S's wider value strategy, which is helping customers shop bigger baskets while ensuring they continue to receive the exceptional quality they expect. So far this calendar year, M&S has invested more than £30 million*** to lower everyday prices across a range of key weekly shop staples.
Alongside lowering prices, M&S is broadening its offer to meet more customer needs and drive greater shopping frequency to become a true shopping list retailer. In August, M&S Food launched its first own-label pet food range, Paws & Pals, marking its entry into the growing pet food category as customer insight shows that almost half of pet food is bought in supermarkets. In May M&S announced its ambition to double the size of its Frozen category by expanding space in store so customers can shop a broader range of frozen food, which is particularly important to families.
M&S continues to invest in larger, more destination-led Foodhalls that offer customers a broader range and an improved shopping experience. In larger, newer Foodhalls M&S is rolling out multi temperature zones for the Organic proposition so customers can shop frozen, chilled and ambient in one place.
Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said: "We're on a journey at M&S Food to become a true shopping list retailer, giving customers more reasons to shop with us more often and for more of what they need each week. Organic is a category with huge potential. That's why we're investing over £4 million to lower prices on more than 50 Organic staples, bringing together trusted M&S quality, accredited Organic sourcing at great value. It's another important step in making M&S accessible to more customers while supporting our ambition to grow the Food business."
