At the end of 2014 I had the privilege of opening our new store in Wolstanton. Not only was this the largest M&S store to launch last year, but it was also the first ever store to have a Community Room, available for local businesses and groups to use free of charge.
As part of our Plan A aim to be in touch with the communities we serve, the Community Room provides a free central space for members of the community, including businesses, schools, charities and organisations, to come together to host meetings, conferences and events.
Since opening the Community Room, we have welcomed hundreds of people, and various local organisations, through our doors. From Staffordshire Council’s Children’s Department to Coeliac UK’s North Staffordshire Local Voluntary Support Group, the response to our new facility has been fantastic.
The Community Room is so much more than just a meeting room. It’s a central hub within the community where local groups can come together and share ideas and it is wonderful to see this in action right here in our store. We’re able to support these groups by providing them with a base and making sure they’re well looked after with the very best quality M&S food and drink from our Foodhall. For me, the most exciting thing about our Community Room is that we can interface directly with the local community and get to know our customers even better.
The Community Room is ideal for smaller businesses and voluntary organisations that either don’t have the facilities for a conference, or simply don’t have the budget to hire a large enough space. All are welcome to use it, from charities and volunteer groups to local businesses and mother and baby groups.
The team and I here at the Wolstanton store are proud to have M&S’s first Community Room, and we can’t wait to meet more groups and organisations. For more information or to book the space please contact WolstantonStoke.PLANA@marks-and-spencer.com
