Hello, I’m Alex Caine, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Breast Cancer Now. 2016 is a very special year for Breast Cancer Now, as we celebrate Fashion Targets Breast Cancer’s 20th anniversary in the UK and we are honoured to have the support of M&S as our headline partner.
Originally founded by Ralph Lauren in the US after he lost a close friend to the disease, the iconic campaign hit in the UK in 1996, bringing the best of British style and talent to the fight. Fashion Targets Breast Cancer has seen the support of some of the biggest names in fashion, including Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Georgia May Jagger, Kylie Minogue, Mario Testino and David Bailey. In 2004 we were thrilled to add the support of an icon of the British high street, M&S, to the campaign.
M&S’ support has raised over £5m to date for the iconic campaign. We’re absolutely thrilled to have M&S help us celebrate this special 20th anniversary as a powerful fashion movement. This year M&S has designed an exclusive range of six fabulous t-shirts that each carry a 30% donation to vital breast cancer research. Beautiful campaign pins and bracelets are available in store to give customers a host of ways to ‘Wear Your Support’ and get involved. Together with this, stores are decked out across the UK with employees really getting behind the campaign and raising money for vital breast cancer research. All of the money raised during Fashion Targets Breast Cancer will go towards M&S’ ambitious new target to raise £13m over the next 5 years to fund breast cancer prevention research. This research aims to discover how risk factors impact each other and create a robust model to calculate an individual’s risk of developing breast cancer. We hope that this research will help us to prevent 9,000 breast cancer cases each year by 2025.
To complement this research our partnership will also be launching a Wellbeing Programme to M&S customers, providing them with information and lifestyle changes they can make to help reduce their individual risk of developing breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Now’s partnership with Marks and Spencer continues to go from strength to strength, this April we celebrated winning the Marketing Initiative Award at the Third Sector Business Charity Awards for our campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month last October. We hope to continue to build on this success in the future.
So for the 20th anniversary of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, we’re proud to stand with women everywhere, united in our belief that, together, we will win this fight.
On behalf of the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer team and everyone at Breast Cancer Now, thank you to all the M&S staff and customers for your incredible support so far.
