Re-establishing Jaeger as a fabulous British brand is full of exciting milestones – and this month marks another one for Team Jaeger, as we embark on an exciting partnership with The Prince’s Trust. We’re planning to welcome six new colleagues into our team as part of the UK Government’s Kickstart programme, which is all about getting young people aged 16-24 onto the career ladder.

The Prince’s Trust is an amazing organisation that I’ve worked with over the years and is also an organisation the M&S Family has a long-standing partnership with – through both its employability scheme (Marks & Start) and as a Sparks charity partner. Since 2004, the Marks & Start programme has supported over 30,000 young people who are at a disadvantage, to find an accessible route into work. Through a dedicated training programme, these placements help to equip young people with core life and work skills such as resilience and wellbeing, communication skills and building confidence in the workplace.

Now, we’re on the hunt for six passionate individuals to take part in our Jaeger Kickstart cohort across both our stores and our support centre (office). I trained as a designer (I still design Jaeger products) so one role I’m particularly excited about is recruiting for a Design Assistant to support the creation of our garment design briefs and colour palettes. Other roles include a Buying Administration Assistant to support the delivery of product from prototype to launch in store and of course, our Store Colleagues who provide best in class customer service. The roles vary but ultimately, they all offer the development of the fundamental core skills to kickstart a career in fashion and retail.

I’m passionate about the scheme and supporting youth unemployment. The unemployment rate for 16-24 year olds was 11.1% in September-November 2021 - and it is these young people, with brilliant young minds, who could be shaping the future not only of their personal career, but shaping the future of Jaeger.

If you’re keen to get into fashion and retail, and aged 16-24 and on Universal Credit, reach out to your work coach at your local job centre and apply to join Team Jaeger as part of the Kickstart scheme. I look forward to welcoming you to the team !
