Global Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare: proud to be recognised again for our leading approach to farm animal welfare
Marks & Spencer is committed to offering a wide range of high-quality delicious food with provenance that you can depend upon. We know that good food starts at the farm, which is why we work with M&S Select Farmers that we know and trust.
One of the things that we care deeply about is the health and welfare of the livestock that are used in our food products – whether that’s fresh meat, poultry, dairy or farmed fish. That’s why we are so pleased that we continue to achieve ‘top tier’ performance in the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW).
This benchmark, which is now in its seventh year, analyses the farm animal welfare management and performance of the world’s largest food companies across a range of distinct, objective criteria. As such, it is the most authoritative and comprehensive account of corporate practice on farm animal welfare.
The benchmark is supported by founding partners, Compassion in World Farming and World Animal Protection, and aims to drive corporate improvements in the welfare of animals reared for food. It specifically looks at four areas, including farm animal welfare management, policy commitment, performance and disclosure.
We have consistently achieved the highest level of performance in this benchmark since its inception and this demonstrates our long-term commitment to animal welfare. Naturally, we are delighted to get this recognition and we warmly welcome the role that the BBFAW benchmark provides in being a catalyst for change across the global food industry.
And, as you’d expect, we will continue to develop our approach to animal welfare to ensure we remain a leader in this area.
