Celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight 2015
We’re celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight in our stores this week!
Fairtrade Fortnight is an annual national event to highlight Fairtrade and this year runs from 23rd Feb to 8th March. M&S is proud to be one of the organisations supporting Fairtrade Fortnight in our stores.
Fairtrade is about decent working condition, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. So when customers buy Fairtrade products they know producers behind them are getting a fair deal.
We have a range of Fairtrade products in our Food Halls, including bagged bananas, a great selection of wines, a range of tablet chocolate bars, a number of jams and conserves, a selection of Fairtrade roses, and all our tea and coffee in both stores and cafes. Look out in store for our Fairtrade Fortnight artwork, highlighting our key Fairtrade product areas.
We’ve been selling Fairtrade products for over 10 years. In 2004, M&S began selling Fairtrade coffee in our coffee shops, and in 2006 M&S became the first major retailer to switch all of its own-label tea and coffee to Fairtrade. Sales of M&S tea and coffee have now generated £3.5 - £4 million of extra funding for developing world producers, which has been spent on a wide number of life-changing projects for their communities.
Back in In Autumn 2014 we relaunched our tea and coffee, including great new colourful packaging and innovative products such as coffee capsules.
Some products to look out for this Fortnight:
- Our innovative coffee capsules with 6 different blends, from classic, single origin Columbian, to lazy weekend
- Two new Fairtrade infusion tea pyramids – Moroccan mint, and Rooibos, Vanilla and Cocoa Nibs
- A range of Fairtrade chocolate tablets, including Milk Chocolate with Butterscotch seasalt, Dark Chocolate with Stem Ginger, and White Chocolate with Madagascan Vanilla
Have a Fairtrade Feast this Fortnight!
