We’re backing Bristol BIG Green Week and embarking on one of our most ambitious Shwopping activities to date – The Bristol BIG Shwop.

I’m really excited we’re getting behind Bristol BIG Green Week this June. It’s a fantastic family event from 14th – 22nd June that brings people of Bristol together with a fun-filled programme of events that celebrate sustainability. It’s great to be connected with such a significant local celebration.

As part of our engagement, we are aiming on running one of our most ambitious Shwopping activities to day – The Bristol BIG Shwop.

Our aim is to collect over 10,000 items of unwanted clothes that can be re-sold, re-used, or recycled by Oxfam, our Shwopping partner. We’re going to do this in two ways; through all of our local stores and by running Shwop at Work events with other businesses across the Bristol area.

All of our local stores and staff across Bristol are on board and people will be able to Shwop on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June and receive a spend and save voucher*.  Stores you can visit include Broadmead, Cribbs Causeway, Avonmead, Longwell Green and Yate.

To make it even easier for people to participate, we’re inviting businesses across Bristol to have a Shwop Drop at their office enabling colleagues to recycle their unwanted clothes at work. We will give you the Shwop box and arrange for the clothes to be collected. It’s a great way for businesses to demonstrate their sustainability credentials and engage employees in a fun, easy to run activity.

In Bristol, we are well-known for being a ‘green’ city and we have a fantastic record when it comes to Shwopping locally but now we want to raise our game even more. Collecting 10,000 items will be a huge achievement, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill and raising crucial funds for Oxfam’s poverty alleviation work.

It’s only going to be possible though with your help. If you’re based in Bristol, think whether you can run a Shwop at Work event in your workplace and contact nick.nevett@bitc.org.uk if you’re interested, or start clearing out your wardrobe and I look forward to seeing you in store.

Thanks,  Phil
