This Autumn Marks & Spencer will unveil an exclusive ready-to- wear collection by Mark Powell, one of London’s best-known and influential bespoke tailors.

Renowned for his classically inspired tailoring techniques combined with experimental cuts and styling, Soho-based Powell has dressed some of the world’s most stylish celebrities including David Bowie, George Clooney, George Michael Keira Knightley, Rupert Friend and Atonement director Joe Wright.

Inspired by nostalgia, pop and contemporary culture, Powell’s collection for Autograph at Marks & Spencer truly reflects his passion for the bygone era of elegance fused with his love of London street style.  He has created a capsule collection that offers luxury and individuality which is both accessible and affordable.

The capsule collection comprises sharply cut suits (each named after a Soho street) featuring Mark Powell’s signature finishing touches of gold lining, mother-of-pearl buttons, and single button cuffs prices from £199.  The suits are complemented by bold shirts in beautiful fabrics (£35), retro styled cufflinks (£19.50), and a range of distinctive silk ties (£19.50). Finish off with a pearl encrusted tie pin (£15), to complete the look.

A cool, 60s style, slim fitting evening suit in black offers classic formal tailoring with a contemporary twist (£199).

Men who want to stand out from the crowd can choose from a range of classic overcoats named in honour of London’s Soho streets; the Kingly, Wardour or Berwick. The camel coat (£199) introduces luxury with cutting edge style, while the velvet collared Covert coat offers a touch of country chic at £179.

Mark Powell says "The collection I have created for Autograph uses many of the cuts, details and signatures from my bespoke work for which I’m well known.  It is inspired by the 1920s and 1930s, by classic sartorial style, pop and street culture and also includes a narrow silhouette from the 1960s."

Julian Kilmartin, Director of Menswear at M&S adds “We’re excited to be working with Mark.  He brings an exciting new dimension to the Autograph range. This collection will introduce a new audience to Mark’s innovative designs, which combine high quality craftsmanship with cutting edge design.”

The Mark Powell Collection for Autograph will be available from November 1 2007 in selected stores nationwide and online at www.marksandspencer.com.

Mark Powell joins the existing roster of designers for Autograph which includes Timothy Everest, Nigel Hall, and Jeffery-West.
