Steve was appointed CEO of Marks & Spencer on 2nd April 2016.
He brings over 30 years of retail and consumer brand experience to the M&S leadership team, having first joined the business in 1983 working at the Croydon store. In 1985, Steve moved to store management at Topshop before re-joining M&S in 1989. His career spans every aspect of M&S, having progressed through store management and buying and merchandising roles to be appointed Director of Home and New Business in 2004 and Director of Retail and a member of the Executive Committee in March 2008, with his accountabilities expanded to include M&S.com in 2009.
He was appointed to the Board in October 2012 as Executive Director of Food before becoming Executive Director of General Merchandise in July 2015.
Steve became a Director of Ocado Retail Limited, following M&S’s 50% acquisition of the company.
Steve is Chair of the Business in the Community ('BITC') Place Leadership Team. In addition, he sits on the Board of the Consumer Goods Forum, which brings together leaders from global retailers and manufacturers.
