M&S has worked with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) since 2004. MCS is the leading UK charity dedicated to the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife. They campaign for clean seas and beaches, sustainable fisheries, protection of marine life and their habitats, and the sensitive use of our marine resources for future generations.
In 2011, M&S and MCS launched the Forever Fish partnership which aimed to:
- Reduce litter on the UK's beaches with the help of M&S customers and employees with our annual Big Beach Clean-up. We also recorded the findings to help MCS with future campaigns.
- Promote and support sustainable seafood: MCS produces the Good Fish Guide which advises on fish to eat and fish to avoid www.goodfishguide.org
- Highlight the threats of overfishing and poor management of our oceans.
- Educate and inspire the next generation of marine conservationists via a UK-wide network of over 500 active Sea Champions volunteers.
In 2016, M&S launched their Spark Something Good initiative and teamed up with MCS to offer volunteer beach cleans close to a number of cities across the UK - why not come along and join us? If you want to join in with this year's beach cleans, they only take an hour or two and you’ll be doing something good for your local marine environment!
