Training

Learning and development is an important part of life at M&S.

That’s why we’ve spent time refining and perfecting our scheme so that graduates enjoy exactly the right balance between different kinds of training. The aim is to ensure that, by the end of it, you have both the technical and personal skills you need to perform successfully in a management role.

The majority of your learning will be done on-the-job. It’s the best way to build up a general understanding of how our business works and become expert in your area. But this will be supplemented by a range of other learning methods to help you gain more specific knowledge and skills.

Shadowing one of our experienced managers, you’ll get to see first hand what it takes to successfully motivate and lead a team.

Workshops

These combine classroom learning with more hands-on practical tasks, and can last anything between 90 minutes and three days, depending on the topic you’re covering.

Self-directed learning

You’ll receive a set of workbooks on focusing on the key technical aspects of your role. You’ll be expected to complete them on the job.

Practical learning

Practical on-the-job learning opportunities could involve leading a piece of project work for your line manager, for example, or reviewing an element of the store operation and putting your recommendations into practice.
