Benefits

You’re probably wondering what you get in return for all your hard work. Rest assured, the benefits are as special as the scheme itself.

Competitive salary

Selling graduates joining us in April 2010 will start at £23,000 rising to £24,000 in September. Head office starting salaries are £23,500 for Food Product Developer, Food Buyer, Merchandising, Buying and Garment Technology roles and £25,500 for Food Technology and IT roles. Graduates working in Ireland will receive the equivalent of c.£24,000, converted to Euros at the rate of exchange when you join. Business placement students get £17,500.

Holidays

You earn paid holiday from the very first day of your employment. You’re entitled to four weeks in your first year, and the longer you stay with us, the more you’ll earn.

Staff discount

Within your first month, you’ll be given an M&S discount card, which entitles you and a partner or member of your family living at the same address to 20% off our food, clothing and Home products. Our store-based graduates will also be able to purchase six selected M&S clothing items per month at a discount of up to 40%.

Lifestyle benefits

We offer options like flexible working, career breaks and maternity, paternity and dependency leave.

Pension plan

A big benefit of working at M&S is our pension scheme. After a year, you’ll get the chance to start saving for your future. And for every £1 you put in, we’ll put in an extra £2 (but before you get carried away, there is a maximum contribution).

Getting you started

We recognise that starting a new career can be an expensive business, especially if you have to up sticks and move. So we help out with relocation costs, including giving you money towards the cost of moving, and a little extra for things like furniture and general household goods. We also provide interest-free loans for rental deposits, business clothes and season travel tickets.

Additional benefits

You’ll also have the chance to take part in our profit sharing scheme, take up optional subsidised benefits such as discounted gym membership, and enjoy savings on tickets for amusement parks, joining fees for health clubs and RAC membership, as well as reductions at a variety of UK holiday resorts.
