Marks & Spencer is to trial new store formats that will help develop a fresh approach to store design.
The trial will commence with the complete redesign and redevelopment of the high street store in Basingstoke. The trial will then roll out to an additional 10 high street stores. The aim will be to complete the design and re–fit of these stores by the end of the next financial year (2004/5).
Work will also begin on the redesign and redevelopment of the city centre store in Newcastle. Work on all these stores will commence shortly and they will trade throughout the redevelopment period.
Leading UK architects will be appointed to work with Marks & Spencer to design and deliver the new stores. Confirmation of these architects will be announced shortly.
The trial is under the guidance of Vittorio Radice, Director of Home, as part of his extended role on the development of Marks & Spencer's customer proposition, specifically looking at its retail environment.
