In the week before Christmas, Marks & Spencer will extend opening hours in stores across the country, with 55 stores due to stay open until midnight.

A further 106 stores will extend their trading hours to either 10pm or 11pm during the last week before Christmas, giving late night shoppers more time to stock up on everything they need for the festive season.

Main chain stores will not open on Boxing Day, although some outlet stores and all Simply Food stores at airports and motorway service stations will be open.

Anthony Thompson, Retail Director, Marks & Spencer said: "At this hectic time of the year, we want to make shopping as convenient as possible for our customers. Extended opening hours allow customers to shop at a time that suits them, and this year more than a quarter of our stores will be open until 10pm or later. Our staff have worked very hard this year, so we'll be closed on Boxing Day, giving them a well earned break."

The 11 Simply Food Stores at BP Connect petrol stations are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week throughout the year.
