The vol-au -vent has been replaced by the wonton as party food goes global, Marks & Spencer research reveals. Sales of global nibbles - mainly Asian - have increased by 50% in the last five years, according to TNS figures commissioned by M&S.
The wonton is one of the most popular global snacks and sales have soared in popularity and risen 70% in two years at M&S Another reason for the increasing popularity of global snacks such as Yakitori Chicken kebabs and spring rolls is that people are enjoying travelling more and try the snacks when they are abroad then want to buy them when they return home
Marks & Spencer party food specialist David Phillpot said: "Once upon a time we were happy to eat sausage rolls and vol-au-vents at parties, but now we want something a little different. The traditional snacks are still popular, but customers love variety and want things that are a bit different, when it comes to hosting a party at home." Wantons are on sale for £2.99 for 12.
