Today, Marks & Spencer has been awarded with a Good Egg Award by Compassion in World Farming in recognition of being the only major UK retailer to sell only free range eggs. M&S extends this policy beyond just its shell eggs to all the eggs used as ingredients in its products. Since 2002, every egg used in the production of all M&S’s food has been free range, including pasta, desserts, biscuits and bakery products – right down to the glaze used on its sausage rolls!
Guy Farrant, Food Director at M&S, said “We are delighted to be the recipients of a Good Egg Award from CIWF. It is a testimony to the commitment of the M&S Food Team to set new egg retail standards in the UK that are yet to be matched by any other major food retailer.
“M&S made the move to be totally free range on both shell eggs and as an ingredient because we are committed to producing the highest quality food in the most compassionate way - our move to free range is a demonstration of our total commitment to the highest standards of animal welfare”
