The following information is given subsequent to the announcement made on 16 October 2008 that Jan du Plessis is to be appointed a non-executive director of Marks and Spencer Group plc on 1 November 2008.

In accordance with paragraph 9.6.13 (1) of the Listing Rules, Jan du Plessis has advised that he is currently a director of British American Tobacco plc, Lloyds TSB Group plc and Rio Tinto plc.  Within the last five years he was a director of RHM plc (de-listed March 2007).

In accordance with paragraph 9.6.13 (2) (4)-(6) of the Listing Rules, he has advised that he has no details to disclose.

In accordance with paragraph 9.6.13 (3) Jan du Plessis has advised that he had resigned as a director of the following companies on 27 October 1994, the same day that they went into members’ voluntary liquidation:

• Tobacco Merger (UK) Limited
• Tobacco Merger (F) Limited
• Luxury Merger (UK) Limited
• Luxury Merger (F) Limited
