Marks & Spencer has announced its intention to close its Lifestore in Gateshead in January 2005.
The announcement forms part of the Operational Review for Marks & Spencer, set out today by the Company's Chief Executive, Stuart Rose.
Mr Rose said:
"It's our intention to close the Marks & Spencer Lifestore in Gateshead. This was a bold experiment but one that no longer fits into the Company's strategy for the future.
"We know that this is sad news for everyone employed at Lifestore and would like to thank them for their hard work over the past few months. We will be talking to them all about the opportunity for redeployment to a Marks & Spencer store nearby."
